Merula Steagall

Merula Steagall is the Founder of Brazilian Blood Cancer Society (ABRALE). Merula was awarded by the Schwab Foundation as Social Entrepreneur of the Year in 2013 and is an Ashoka Fellow. Merula leads a network of patient organizations in the region and Movement Together Against Cancer, a multi-stake holder initiative that aims to strengthen and help implement National Policy for Prevention and Cancer Control In Brazil. Merula’s interests are innovations that can lead to a better control and impact of public policies in health systems and cancer prevention and control. Merula is commited to improving access to treatments and quality of life for people that have to face illnesses in Brazil and Latin America.

Brazilian Blood Cancer Society (ABRALE) is a non-profit organization that aims to achieve excellence and the humanization of treatment as well as quality of life for people with blood cancer in Brazil through data analisis, the development and dissemination of knowledge, advocacy and support for patients and their relatives. Today, ABRALE supports more than 25,000 people through its programmes throughout 14 Brazilian states and works with a network of some 150 organizations that treat and support patients with cancer in Brazil.
